SIZE : 12 x 8 cm; Crystal 4 x 2.4 cm

general description

This sample has dark crystals of rutile on a matrix of white quartz. There are redish reflections on the crystals of rutile. The bigger crystal is 4 x 2.4 cm. The whole sample measures 12 x 8 cm.

It comes from the mineral deposit of Kapyldzhyk in Azerbaijan. Acquired thanks to support from Total, it is currently exposed in the Treasure Room, within the Gallery of Mineralogy of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle.

Species first described in 1803 by Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817), German geologist (Bergwerk Academy, Freiberg, Germany)
