general description

This sample is native gold. It is yellow gold which is lamellar on a compact matrix of quartz. It mesures 9 x 8,5 cm.

This gold comes from the mineral deposit of Donatia in California. It is an old sample of the collection which belongs to colonel Louis Vesignié, it was identified with the nomber 489 O before it was integrated in 1955 to the collections of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle.

It is today kept in the storage rooms of the collections of the Muséum (i.e., not yet displayed to the public).
