Azurite

MNHN N°103.43

visu_161 infos
FROM : Morenci, Arizona, USA
SIZE : 10 x 6.7 cm

general description

This specimen shows an association of azurite (blue) and malachite (green). The circular shapes were made visible with polishing. They are made of successive concentric deposits of malachite and azurite layers, which give, once polished, this flower-like appearance. The sample measures 10 X 6.7 cm.

It was found in the deposit of Morenci in Arizona. Thanks to the gift of Mr. Pierpont-Morgan in 1903, this specimen entered the collections of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris.

This sample is currently exposed in the Room of the Treasure, within the Gallery of Mineralogy of the Muséum.
