general description

This sample presents anatase and quartz crystals on matrix. The whole piece measures 12.5 x 12.5 cm.

The anatase crystals measure approximately 1 cm in length; they are black-bluish, biterminated and perfectly crystallized. Quartz is present in the form of transparent colourless crystals up to 2,5 cm in length.

This specimen comes from the Kharan Mounts in Pakistan. Thanks to support from Total, the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle obtained this sample. It is currently kept in the storage rooms of the collections (i.e., not yet displayed to the public).

Species first described in 1801 by René-Just Haüy (1743-1822), French mineralogist and cristallographer

Type-locality: Saint-Christophe, Bourg d'Oisans, Isère, France
