general description

This sample is an isolated crystal of amethyst variety quartz. The crystal is pale pink on its base and has a dark violet shade at its extremities. There are numerous inclusions inside the crystal: they are hematite.

The crystal measures 27 x 27 x 34 mm and comes from Grand-défens near Saint-Raphaël in le Var, France.
The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle obtained this specimen thanks to support from Total.

This sample is today kept in the reserves of the storage rooms of the Muséum (i.e., not yet displayed to the public).
