general description

This sample is a kind of sphere, composed of many crystals of amethyste. The crystals are well finished and their color varies from white (at the base) to purple intense purple (at the top). This whole specimen measures 9.5 x 6.5 x 7.5 cm.

This sample comes from Brazil, its exact geological locality is unknown. The sample belonged to the collection that Mr. Pierpont-Morgan offered to the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in 1903. It is kept today in the storage rooms of the collections (i.e., not yet displayed to the public).
