SIZE : 5.5 x 6 cm; crystal: 0.8 x 0.6 x 0.2 cm

general description

This specimen shows a brown crystal of allanite (cf detail 1) on white dolomite. The allanite is transparent and is well crystallized. Only one termination is observed. The crystal measures 0.8 X 0.6 X 0.2 cm while the ensemble measures 5.5 X 6 cm.

This sample was found in the Trimouns quarry in Ariège on August 22, 1995. The support from Total made possible its acquisition from a miner from Morroco.

The sample is currently exposed in the Treasure Room within the Gallery of Mineralogy of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle
